Hi Mike, I am so enjoying all your videos! So glad you are posting these. My first Who concert was Shea Stadium, 1982. It was awesome, down in front around 20th row, packed in like sardines, you could lift your feet and still be upright, it was insane!! :) They tried to calm everyone down, by having them sit down, saying The Who won't come on until you calm down, that didn't work, it was crazy, elbows were flying to protect your spot, people argueing, ok, not fond of all that stuff, but it was part of the Who insanity. I loved it, fell in love!!

Happy Anniversary

I remember how excited Marc and I were when we heard the news
that The Who were coming to Florida.First off I remember the
endless radio commercials for it where 'Going Mobile' would
end the commercial,I loved how that sounded after all we were
indeed going mobile. When the time came to get tickets we camped
outside of the now defunct Hollywood Fashion Mall in Hollywood.
There were tons of people lining up at the front door of the
mall and we played Who music on our boomboxes and cars and
pickups would come by blasting the Who(no residential
neighborhoods around so the cops were cool.By the time
morning came around we had no sleep and I remember being
so exhausted by the time they opened the doors and we barreled
off to the record store at the end of the mall corridor.

Once again we were waiting in the queue which seemed to last
forever by the time they let about three or four people in at
a time. When we were finally let in and got our GA tickets it
felt like we had won the f*cking lottery! Tickets in hand,
exhausted but exhuberent at the sametime.

The time finally came,it was November 26th and we had nerves
on edge as we had never done a rock n' roll roadtrip before
let alone for a band that we so worshipped as much as The
Who.I recall our friend Dwayne Mathews started off the drive
in the early morning of November 27th the day of the show.
We finally arrived in the early afternoon to our rickety
motel.

Now that I think of it,maybe we left November 26th and
stayed a day because I seem to recall that we got into
the Tangerine Bowl in the morning and waited 11 hours
give or take.Marc will have to chime in and refresh my
account on this.

Nonetheless, once we got in we decided to sit on a wall
that was just off the field as if you were at the 20
yardline and looking at the endzone(the stage),it was
actually as pretty good view and a smart move to not
be involved in the crush. For there it was just a long
wait in the helter sweltering heat watching people
slowly get stoned and drunk out of their minds way
before the Who would go on and I even remember thinking
to myself that there was no way that some of these fans'
were going to last until the Who hit the stage.I'm glad
I didn't partake in the substances then because I don't
think I would of made it either.

It was a blast to see all the Keith Moon sentiments
made up on homemade posters and what have you,and
checking out the leftovers from the 1960's Woodstock
era,I figured alot of the older fans were in their
late 20's early 30's,they still had the yippie hippie
look.

By the time The Who hit the stage we were in a state
of euphoria, the crowd was packed in like sardines
and loud as I have ever heard anything.UTOPIA!!!
The Who hit the stage, looking like rock stars that
you only thought you'd see in the movies, this was
the real deal and what we got was 2 hours and 40
minutes of raw electric thundering and banging
power and energy. When the show ended,I felt like
I was hit by a truck,it was a long and exhausting
24 hours, but the Who energy that surged through
our body kept us charged up in the post night
celebration in the parking lot and back at the
hotel. It was 25 years ago today on November 27th
1982,a memory that'll bring a smile to me everytime
I think about it.

Mike, I am smiling with you. What a memory. I remember waiting on line overnight, when you could do that for Who tix, and IT was like, winning the lottery. Brings back such memories, and yeah by the time The Who hit the stage the crowd was in a frenzy! It's the best high!!

Hi Mike!

Thanks for the link on Jools Holland!!

So you taped this video? Wow!! I didn't see The Who in 82. But I did see them in 73, 75, 79, and 89. All in Chicago of course, well except the last one which was in Wisconsin just over the border.

Anyway thanks for the video. Tattoo is one of my favorites from my favorite album.

Zoe

Your journey to see The Who sounded like a blast!
